Our Review

The website is SSL secured and they seem to follow most legal guidelines on their website. The finance charges (£30) is slightly high compared to industry average of £25. However, they offer a premier service for some select customers where they do not charge to get the loan on the same day.

I have used this lender many times and for well over a year.

I fell into financial difficulty and they set up a reasonable and affordable payment plan for me. I have used other payday companies but have had nothing but great service from this company. Their staff are friendly and helpful and I would recommend.

As for those who think Microlend wrote this, you are wrong as my other posts in payday lenders will show!

Took full payment from my account, despite having arranged a roll-over & therefore left me with a £35 charge for an unpaid direct debit due to insufficient funds, as a direct result of their cock-up I might add - Then have the audacity to suggest I apply for another loan from them.

Thank you!

Sharon, you are very sweet, thank you.

As always we strive to offer a personal service to all our customers and are glad you are one of many who are impressed!

Howdy, does anyone know the address of this company? Is the postcode on their website the actually address or the PO BOX?

Seemingly the best customer service of the lot. Straight up, quick, honest and secure. They let you pay as much as you want towards your balance each month and reduce interest if you do. No other lender that I've used allows that.

Submitted by Guest (not verified) on Mon, 06/14/2010 - 23:49.

I applied for a loan with them last week and was declined but then three days later they have taken £3.50 from my bank account!! I have only just found out sadly that it says it RIGHT AT THE VERY BOTTOM of your terms and conditions(where they were clearly hoping and praying no-one notices it. Funny how it's always at the bottom??!!). However I believe this to be completely unacceptable practice and nothing short of daylight robbery. Why did they send me an email declining me on the 12th June and then take £3.50 from me on the 15th June? Surely this is theft?

I believe this to be a completely unacceptable charge. Other payday companies charge 1p only so how do they justify £3.50? I am very upset as I feel I have been conned. I believe they decline everyone and then take £3.50 from everyone's accounts.

Dear Guest,

Thank you for your post. The £3.50 is a registration as clearly stated on our terms and conditions and is the same as on other lenders websites, an example of this would be 24/7 Money Box.

You were charged the £3.50 upon application, the bank more often than not takes several days to show the transaction on your statement.

Your baseless assumption that we "decline everyone" is totally wrong - please see below and on other websites different reviews from customers. In addition, the £3.50 registration fee is refunded if the customer is approved for the loan. Our approval rate tops 90%.

We trust this clears up any misunderstandings this post may have caused and invite any correspondence to info@microlend.co.uk.

They are a really good lender. i couldn't repay so they offered me a repayment plan over 7 months. Really honest, professional and fair people. They always ask for honesty and communication and it seems to work because they were very easy going about the whole thing.

Not sure which part of my post you believe is factually incorrect! I would also be very interested to know what information your 'underwriters' used to base their decision to decline...I assume I would be able to make a request to see the data you hold on me under the DPA Act. If you let me know the address I should write to I will send a formal request with the obligatory £10.00.
The reason I applied to Microlend was because this website provides a direct link as a recommended lender along with Payday Bank, 247-moneybox.com etc and also because you are a new lender to the market. After my 'unsuccessful' application with you I was accepted for a loan with Wonga and received the money in my account the same day! Incidentally...for a higher amount! I have been told by others that Quick Quid also approve most of their applications! By the way, I meant to add to my last post that I strongly suspect all of the posts on this website about the wonderfull staff at Microlend have been posted by yourselves....just a thought!!!

Response

Submitted by Micro Lend UK (not verified) on Sun, 05/23/2010 - 08:52.

Dear Sir / Madam,

Thank you once again for your post. The part of your post that is factually incorrect is where you have stated that we have carried out a credit check on you. The underwriters looked at your documents and decided to decline the application based solely on your application and bank statements. Should you wish for the same response you can write to us (no need to pay £10.00)

We have been lending in the UK for just over two and a half years so we are hardly a new lender (we have been around longer than Wonga).

Your assumption that all the posts about our wonderful staff are false is also un true as the website owners track the IP from when each post is made thereby being able to recognize when we are posting a response for example and preventing companies from false posts.

I trust this clears up any confusion and wish you the best of luck with Wonga.

Kind regards,

Micro Lend UK

I also received an e-mail from Micro-lend following an application which stated in the subject field "Your loan has been approved!". I sent my bank statements as requested and waiting in anticipation only to receive a 2nd e-mail 3 days later advising me my application had been declined. I have worked for a Housing Association in London for more than 4 years and take home nearly £1600 per month. I have no overdraft and nothing negative on my statements to suggest I would not repay the loan. Therefore, the ONLY reason for declining my application can be a credit check which will show I did have some trouble with payments in the past. What it doesn't show is that this was due to redundancy in 2004 followed by the breakdown of my marriage in 2008. Responsible lending should mean lenders using skilled underwriters to look at the whole picture instead of using scorecard on a computer to make a lending decision based on information which will often be 5-6 years old and no longer relevant! Risk Assessment is so called because sometimes, a risk is worth taking!! I'm sick and tired of being penalised for problems in my personal life over which I had no control and which are no longer relevant. I would strongly advise potential borrowers to steer clear of these rubbish companies who are clearly only interested in making a quick buck!!!! Remember, without people like me, you wouldn't have a business left. If problems in your past have pushed down the sub-prime route and you have no option but to be ripped off by high interest charges, use Wonga or Quick Quid because they never say no!!

Response.

Dear Customer,

Thank you for your post.

Unfortunately your assumptions are totally incorrect and not based on facts rather just your imagination. Your personal problems or past history had NOTHING to do with our leading decision. We do NOT do credit checks - feel free to check if we have left a mark on your credit file or confirm with the appropriate credit reference agencies.

The underwriters would have declined your application due to their own reasoning, simple.

Thank you though for applying and we are sorry we were unable to lend to you on this occasion.

Just a thought - if "Quick Quid and Wonga never say no" - why did you apply with us???

I have been a customer with micro lend for about 6 months now. They are really helpful, courteous and kind, they actually care as apposed to other lenders who really don't care. From when I took out my first loan they told me to communicate with them whatever happens. I was having some hard time financially and they were really appreciative of me calling and they set up a pay plan for me where I paid the loan off in like 4 months. I would highly recommend. Sonia.

Thank you!

Dear Sonia, Thank you for your post. We always recommend communication and advise customers to be in touch and have a chat, that way we can help. The problems always start in the unlikely event that customers decide to ignore... If we can be of any further help then do not hesitate to apply online. Thanks! The Micro Lend Team!

I applied for a loan only to be told they were "experiencing difficulties". Then got a call saying i was declined and if I was successful then they would not roll over my loan, said i would not.. he said "doesn't look like it" and then said come back in a few months...said that was not likely and reply was "goodbye". Starters:

1)mailed them a few times - regardless of how busy they are there is customer satisfaction

2) was asked to call a mobile number... now that's not official...

3) when calling them you will just get a message stating opening hours...

Response

Submitted by Micro Lend UK (not verified) on Wed, 04/21/2010 - 17:44.

Dear Customer,

Firstly, thank you for your post.

We were "experiencing difficulties" a few days ago due to a systems upgrade that took longer than expected. An email was sent explaining this to all customers who had outstanding documents waiting to be looked through.

I do not really understand what your issues where? Your application was initially approved and thereafter declined; this is a totally normal situation where the underwriters would have looked through your documents and decided that we were unable to lend to you based on your bank statements. This decision was NOT based on your credit history, as we do NOT do credit checks.

1) If you would have emailed us we would have responded

2)If you were asked to call a mobile number; this is to save you money on having to call an 0845 number and also gives you the satisfaction of being able to deal with a dedicated advisor who has your documents to hand at all times; so we can be more efficient when dealing with your application

3) When calling, if none of our advisors are available to answer your call then yes, you would get an answer phone message giving you our hours of work and telling you to LEAVE A MESSAGE so someone could call you back. Voice messages are checked every 2 hours.

I trust this clears up any confusion you may have had.

Dear Customer, as per the number of enquiries we receive we are unable to deal with each declined application in detail. If an application is declined an email will automatically be sent. If your application is in an approval status then i assure you that you will have all the customer service required from a dedicated team of people. I trust this clears up any misunderstanding.

I have been doing business with them for about a year and I have never had any problems with them and in fact they have now offered me a way to pay off the original amount of £200 so I don't keep incurring high interest charges every month and the loan will be cleared in full in a few months. The guy who I speak to on the phone is very nice. I recommend them.

i tried to do business with Micro lend uk and i was told my application was successful and i should fax some document to include passport and credit card i will be using to pay back the loan. i wasn't able getting any one on the phone but they did reply to my email telling me i have been declined, fair enough. but based on my application, they had enough information to make a dicesion without taking personal document which was only proving what i submitted on my application in the first place. i hope it's not used for other purpose.

Hi, thank you for your post. To clarify, you were only informed that your application was initially approved. We cannot make the correct desicions based on information merely told to us in an application. To ensure responsible lending practices we require documentation and once recieved it is looked through carefully and a final desicion is made thereafter.

Thank you Sharon for your response to this thread. The customer concerned did not pay her loan back as per her terms and conditions or as per a judgement that was taken out against her. She still has a large outstanding balance. As long as you keep to the terms and conditions of the loan, we will do everything as promised.
